The faith formation of all students entrusted to us is the primary focus of Cedar Valley Catholic Schools’ curriculum. Our religion program provides a developmentally age-appropriate, systematic and comprehensive presentation of our Catholic teachings and beliefs to our students.
The United States Bishops have created a document, Doctrinal Elements of a Curriculum Framework for the Development of Catechetical Materials for Young People of High School Age, in efforts to ensure there is a core curriculum for all Catholic high schools throughout the United States. Columbus Catholic High School’s religion curriculum is structured around this document.
The Archdiocese of Dubuque K-8 Religion Curriculum Guide for Catholic Schools and Parish Faith Formation Programs provides the framework for our kindergarten through eighth grade religion curriculum. There are specific Essentials Learnings based on the knowledge, competencies and life applications needed for our students to reach each of the four major goals:
Our faith’s teachings and beliefs are purposefully infused into all curricular areas. We are committed to guiding our students to grow in their personal relationship with God, to be knowledgeable about their Catholic faith and to integrate its traditions, teachings and beliefs into their personal life within the walls of our schools and beyond. This goal can only be achieved through partnership with our students’ parents, who are the primary educators of their children’s faith.
